Year One Episode 21 – Gotham The Anvil or the Hammer – Gotham TV Podcast Episode 46

In the penultimate episode of Gotham season one we discuss Episode 21 of Gotham The Anvil or the Hammer on Episode 46 of Gotham TV Podcast. This episode was great, we loved it, Gotham The Anvil or the Hammer was in parts gruesome, edgy, sassy and fraught with danger for all the main protagonists. Written by Jordan Harper and directed by Paul A. Edwards this is definitely one of the best episodes of the season so far.

The Ogre (Milo Ventimiglia) reveals his true intentions to Barbara (Erin Richards) as he slowly, but surely begins to emotionally break her! With these disturbing developments the G.C.P.D’s investigation intensifies as Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) track him to an out-of-town location after a surprising personal testimony from an employee of the Fox Glove nightclub, a previous haunt of Jason “The Ogre” Lennon. As they close in on the Ogre, Barbara’s life and the lives of people close to her are in deadly jeopardy. All the while, Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) begins to move his pieces on the chess board that is Gotham as he seeks to begin the turf war between the rival gangs of Don Maroni (David Zayas) and Don Falcone (John Doman). As the chaos begins so Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) finds himself in turmoil as he must come to terms with revelations about his father – Thomas Wayne; and Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) must clean up after his actions from the night before, but all with a sly sense of humour and, of course, a clue!.

The outro music for this week is again the The with their fantastic tune “Boiling Point” someone loves their UK indie music over in Gotham we suspect Danny Cannon and Bruno Heller.

Join us again next week for the season finale of Gotham as we discuss Episode 22 All Happy Families Are Alike. Don’t forget that we will also be drawing the winner of our competition for the signed Christopher Uminga print of Oswald Cobblepot , the first five issues of Gotham By Midnight with art by Ben Templesmith and more goodies.

Thank you so much for listening and thanks for your interactions on twitter, Facebook, google+ on Tumblr and by email to [email protected] it really makes the show so much fun when we hear from you.

But Jim has misjudged the intentions of Jason “The Ogre” Lennon (Milo Ventimiglia) as he meets the down on her luck, but not on her inheritance, Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) and begins what could be a lasting relationship. In another Gotham love story a jealous and protective water-melon soaked Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) continues to vie for the affections of Kristin Kringle (Chelsea Spack) and disapprove of her new boyfriend Tom (Zachary Spicer). Bruce (David Mazouz) and Selina (Camren Bicondova) work together to find the next piece in the puzzle of their investigation into Wayne Enterprises by attending the Wayne Enterprises Charity Ball and picking the pockets of Sid Bunderslaw (Michael Potts). Meanwhile Sal Maroni (David Zayas) reveals Oswald’s (Robin Lord Taylor) big secret to Gertrude Kapelput (Carol Kane) with disastrous consequences for a local delivery boy.

Year One Episode 19 – Gotham Beasts of Prey – Gotham TV Podcast Episode 44

This week on Gotham TV Podcast we talk all about episode 19 of Gotham Beasts of Prey that aired on Channel 5 in the UK on the 4th May 2015.

As a new playboy billionaire, Jason Lennon (Milo Ventimiglia), is fresh on the scene of Gotham, the body of a missing woman, Grace Fairchild (Willa Fitzgerald), turns up in Gotham City brutally murdered. As Jim Gordon takes on the case of the murdered woman with his partner Harvey Bullock, so begins a slow revelation for Jim of a long-standing serial killer that preys on women. Complicit in the murderous work of the Ogre is the silence of the G.C.P.D.; and even as this new killing spooks the Precinct some look to turn a dangerous situation to their advantage. Meanwhile as Selina and Bruce team-up to track down Reggie to get answers about the underhand business at Wayne Enterprises, Bruce is left with a potentially life-changing decision; and finally Fish is able to put her plan in to action on the island of Doctor Dulmacher (Colm Feore). This was a really great episode with a fantastic creepy murderer at the center of Jim and Harvey’s investigation.

Year One Episode 17 – Gotham Red Hood – Gotham TV Podcast Episode 42

We have another Joker connected episode this week on Gotham TV podcast as we discuss Gotham Red Hood episode 17 of the season. This episode aired on Channel 5 in the UK on the 20th April 2015.

Sean Pertwee described this episode to us as “Alfred’s past arriving at the door of Wayne Manor“. We discuss these new revelations about Alfred’s past and about what both Alfred and Reggie (David O’Hara) are capable of as former war veterans. Little did we know that this episode also included what John describes as the scene of the series (…and it’s not the one you are thinking of!). We also chat about the introduction of the Red Hood and the Mythos surrounding the Gotham Red Hood which seems to instill a confidence in it’s wearer to lead, crack jokes and give money away. Then there is that eye popping moment with Fish Mooney that really hits an (optical) nerve plus we find out about the owner of facility where Fish is held – Doctor Dulmacher. This was a great episode and your can hear us discuss the stand out points of Episode 17 in full glorious detail.

Send us your thoughts on how Fish Mooney could continue in the show even if Jada Pinkett Smith does leave to [email protected].

The music at the end of this weeks episode is Dean Martin’s version of “When You’re Smiling”. This very appropriate song was sung by Gurtrude Kappleput on the stage at “Oswald’s”.

With Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock on the trail of Dr Gerald Crane (Julian Sands), time is running out for him to develop a permanent cure for what he sees as a genetic flaw in the human race, FEAR. Year One Episode 14 – Gotham The Fearsome Doctor Crane – Gotham TV Podcast Episode 39

This week on Gotham it was time to be very very afraid as we were introduced to the Crane family in Episode 14 of Gotham The Fearsome Doctor Crane which aired in the UK on Monday 30th March 2015.

We also introduce another Doctor from Gotham in the shape of the (former) G.C.P.D. Medical Examiner, as Philip Hernandez who plays Doctor Guerra left a very special message for our listeners. In the message he explains his scenes in the episode and provides some extra little bits that he brought to the character of Doctor Guerra. He also vows to return to exact his revenge on Ed Nygma! You can follow Philip Hernadez on Twitter and check out his website and blog for all those interested in acting and learning the profession.

In this episode of Gotham the G.C.P.D. investigate a series of murders that surround an anonymous support group for people with debilitating phobias. The perpetrator seemingly is extracting their adrenal gland for no obvious reason. As Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock investigate these crimes, Jim is released from his involvement in the investigation of Thomas and Martha Wayne’s murder by the young Bruce Wayne, seemingly frustrated at the lack of progress in the official case. All the while a romantic air falls over the G.C.P.D as Harvey finds his soft centre for the leader of the support group, Ms. Mullens, and Jim’s relationship with Leslie Thompkins evolves through an unexpected dinner date. Meanwhile at the Precinct a professional spat between the Medical Examiner, Dr. Guerra and Ed Nygma leads to the suspension of Ed from the Forensics Unit before he implicates Guerra in the collection of spare body parts from the morgue. Is Guerra Ed Nyma’s (aka The Riddler) first victim? As Jim and Harvey narrow down their list of suspects, they race to an abandoned swimming pool where Mullens is in danger as a Doctor Gerald Crane is revealed as the murderer at large. With his actions are driven by a longing to release him and his son, Jonathon Crane from their debilitating F.E.A.R. We discuss all these top five case points surrounding  Episode 14 of Gotham.

Feedback

We discuss all the feedback that has come in from our listeners on everything from Welcome Back Jim Gordon to our thoughts about whether Gotham should have a time jump. Make sure to send your thoughts to [email protected]

We also give a big shout out to Victoria Cartagena (Detective Renee Montoya on Gotham) who celebrated her birthday on the 31st of March. If you haven’t had the chance you can hear our interviews with Victoria and of course her partner Detective Crispus Allen (played by Andrew Stewart-Jones) at the links below. We want to wish Victoria a great birthday and another great year on Gotham.

The music at the end of this weeks episode is Nouvelle Vague’s cover song of Love will Tear Us Apart (feat. Eloisia) from their self-titled album Nouvelle Vague. This song was playing in the background of the restaurant where Jim Gordon met Leslie Thompkins for what she thought was another date but turned out to be some professional consultation.

Join us again next week as we discuss Episode 15 of Gotham The Scarecrow. We’re excited to see how the beginnings of Jonathon Crane’s fear leads to his journey towards becoming the Scarecrow. Thanks as always for listening.

Year One Episode 13 – Gotham Welcome Back Jim Gordon – Gotham TV Podcast Episode 38

This week it was time to “Welcome Back, Jim Gordon” to the Gotham City Police Department as we discuss Episode 13 of Gotham which aired in the UK on Monday 23rd March 2015.

In this episode of Gotham Jim Gordon returns to the G.C.P.D. and carries on exactly where he left off before his demotion to Arkham Asylum. He starts an internal investigation among his fellow officers and detectives following a killing of a low-level and seemingly insignificant drug gang member. Oswald Cobblepott’s dreams come true, for a moment as he takes ownership of Fish’s old club; and we really get a taste of Gabe, Oswald’s right-hand man, as he acts on a favour for Jim Gordon by The Penguin. Whilst at Wayne Manor Cat has some bad news for Master Bruce.

We discuss our top five case points for Episode 13 of Gotham including the emergence of the right hand men (Butch Gilzean, Victor Zsasz and Harvey Bullock), the reshuffle of the gangster elements in Gotham, Jim Gordon’s support group, Edward Nygma and Kristine Kringle’s blossoming relationship and of course that final showdown in Fish Mooney’s club.

Feedback

As was pointed out by Detective Dillon The Electocutioner/Jack Gruber really reminds us of some versions of Hugo Strange from the comics.

Hugo Strange Jack Gruber

HUGO STRANGE – JACK GRUBER

We also had some great twitter feedback from Channel 5 viewers, listeners and some of the actors on Gotham during our live tweet of Gotham Welcome Back Jim Gordon including Zabrena Guevara, Erin Richards, Drew Powell, J.W. Cortez and Tom Calderone.

The music at the end of this weeks episode is Hanni El Khatib‘s song Family from his album Heatseekers. This song was used in Fish Mooney’s club in Welcome Back Jim Gordon when Oswald has had a bit too much champagne.

Join us again next week as we discuss episode 14 of Gotham The Fearsome Dr. Crane. Directed by John Behring and written by John Stephens who also wrote The Baloonman and The Mask. We’re excited to see the back story of one of our favourite Batman villains. Thanks as always for listening.

Jim Gordon begins life as a prison guard at Arkham Asylum after his very public demotion by the Mayor, but trouble never seems too far away as bodies with troubling scars either side of their forehead begin to show up within Arkham. Jim calls in his former partner Harvey Bullock to help investigate the murders, which appear to have been experimented on using electro-therapy. A mass breakout from Arkham orchestrated by the culprit, an inmate by the name of Jack Gruber, sees him escape along with his most promising experiment to date. In the meantime, Fish begins to contemplate her most audacious move against the Don Falcone just as questions are raised over the loyalty of her right-hand man – Butch Gilzean. Despite everything going on in the Arkham and Gotham a new romance develops as a spark ignites between the now single Jim Gordon and the Arkham’s physician, Doctor Leslie Thompkins.

    • His experience as a young actor on the set of cult space horror film “Event Horizon”
    • How Sean uses his bodyguard training from a previous role to inform his “kick-arse” Alfred
    • His excitement to see another Alfred in Batman V Superman : Dawn of Justice
    • Of course we also asked about his favourite type of tea and finally get an answer to the question plaguing everyone’s mind since Episode 2 of Gotham “When exactly is tea-time?”

We also posed some of our listeners questions to him about his approach to playing the character of Alfred, Doctor Who and the influence of his father John Pertwee on his career.

It was an absolute pleasure getting another chance to catch up with our favourite ex-military butler and genuinely one of our favourite British actors Sean Pertwee.

Gotham Joker Watch Special – Gotham TV Podcast Episode 33

With a possible joker in Episode 16 of Gotham in the US which will air on the 16th of February 2015, we bring you our Gotham Joker Watch special. We discuss our thoughts and the thoughts of our listeners to the announcement that Cameron Monaghan (Shameless US, Fringe) being cast to play the part of Jerome. It’s been strongly hinted that this character will grow up to be the Batman nemesis Joker so we talk about what that means for us and what we think it means for the show.

You can watch the teaser trailer for Episode 16 “The Blind Fortune Teller” below. There are some minor flashes of episodes we haven’t seen yet but it’s worth it for “Jerome’s” laugh.

There’s certainly a strong hint that he likes to laugh in the face of authority.

We hope you enjoyed our Gotham Joker Watch Special thanks as always for listening we’ll talk to you again soon with another episode of Gotham TV Podcast.
