Gotham Finale Review of 512 “The Beginning…” Synopsis

Directed by: Rob Bailey

As a more portly Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) prepares to leave Blackgate Prison after ten years, strange things begin to take place in Gotham on the eve of the return of Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) for the opening of the new Wayne Towers. Many of Gotham’s residents are waiting for Bruce to return including Selina Kyle (played by Lili Simmons), who is still disappointed she was left behind. Whispers are abound of a dark menace blighting the criminal underworld, while the G.C.P.D. are unable to trace missing US military supplies.

As the day arrives and Penguin walks free more offbeat moments ensue as the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) is busted out of Arkham Asylum and a shaken Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) is framed for the murder of an Arkham guard.

As Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) begins to piece together the evidence helped by an unknown figure in black, a sinister plot targeting the city of Gotham and Wayne Towers is revealed to be masterminded by Jeremiah
Valeska (Cameron Monaghan), or is that Jack, Joseph, John or Mr Jay. As Jim prepares to face the disfigured Jeremiah at ACE Chemicals a new figure emerges to be the hero that Gotham needs.

Written by:  Seth Boston and John Stephens

As the army comes in to take control of Gotham and the city continues to be evacuated, Jeremiah Valeska (Cameron Monaghan), back behind bars at the GCPD, warns a skeptical Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) of more bombs and destruction to come. Meanwhile, Jim is kidnapped by The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) and narrowly escapes death after Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) convinces Ed Nygma to leave Gotham. But Ra’s Al Ghul’s (Alexander Siddig) plan swings into action as a bomb detonates killing the Mayor of Gotham and forcing Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) to leave a hospitalised Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) to confront Jeremiah at the G.C.P.D. But he in turn is kidnapped and taken to Ra’s where he is rescued by an unexpected team, Barbara Kean (Erin Richards), Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas), Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) and Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) who arrive, saving Bruce and killing Ra’s Al Ghul. As Bruce is saved Jeremiah’s bombs destroy every bridge out of Gotham, reducing the city to lawlessness. As the city is carved up between competing criminal gangs Penguin takes his revenge out on Tabitha Galavan for the death of his mother and we say goodbye to Butch Gilzean/Solomon Grundy (Drew Powell). Finally Bruce Wayne is forced to make a life changing decision and to come to terms with his future in a Gotham that is cut-off from the outside world.
