On this episode of Gotham TV Podcast we follow up our Hush Volume One review with a chat all about Batman Hush Volume Two (Volume 2 Collected; Issues #6-13). Written by Jeph Loeb with art by Jim Lee and Scott Williams this story arc was originally released as Batman 613-619. Again this volume follows the story of Tommy Elliot (Played by Cole Vallis on Gotham Episode 8) and his relationship with Bruce Wayne. In a story arc filled with twists and turns we find out the identity of the villain Hush and why all of Batman’s rogues gallery have been acting differently.

We always appreciate our listeners who share our episodes and we have a few thank you’s to Cole Vallis, and Gotham Originals who shared our review of Hush Volume one with their followers on Facebook. You can find the Gotham Originals on twitter @Gothamoriginals they provide great news stories and discussion about Gotham at it’s US pace if you are looking for a group to join and can’t get enough Gotham.

Two of our listeners, Detective Dillon Exner and Detective Daniel Butcher of Comic Book Time Machine and Marvel Cinematic Universe podcast Welcome to Level Seven contacted us about a missed Joker reference in Gotham. You can see the image that Detective Daniel captured of “Smile” written on the side of a building in Gotham.

Gotham News

  • the Dollmaker mentioned in Episode 2 of #Gotham will appear on the show. Colm Feore, who played King Laufey in Thor and also appeared in Amazing Spider-man 2 is making the leap over to DC to take the role. Dollmaker, real name Dr. Francis Dulmacher, has been teased since the second episode of Gotham, in which his creepy henchmen Doug (Frank Whaley) and Patti (Lili Taylor) name him as the culprit behind the mass kidnappings of the city’s street children. We wonder if John’s theory on the Dollmaker will come true.
  • Comicbook.com had the news up on their site

DC Connected News

  • Supergirl has been cast for the upcoming CBS show as Supergirl herself, the young Kara Zor-El. We don’t know much about the show yet but the big question given that CBS are part owners in the CW channel which airs Arrow and The Flash, will Supergirl exist in the same universe as those two shows. Only time will tell. The full story is available over on IGN.com

Thanks as always for listening we’ll talk to you again soon with another episode of Gotham TV Podcast.

Batman Hush Volume One Review – Gotham TV Podcast Episode 31

As Gotham is still on a mid-season break in the UK and Ireland, Gotham TV Podcast chat about the graphic novel Batman Hush (Volume 1 Collected; Issues #1-5). Written by Jeph Loeb with art by Jim Lee and Scott Williams this story arc was originally released as Batman 608-612. Notable about this story is the introduction of the character Tommy Elliot (Played by Cole Vallis in Episode 8 of Gotham “The Mask“) and which features flashbacks to his childhood friendship with the Young Bruce Wayne. Gotham News
⦁    Gotham has been officially renewed by Fox in the US for a second season. At the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter event on Saturday 17th January Co-Chairman and CEO of Fox, Dana Walden, said that Fox “love the show” and they’ve told the team behind the hit show “keep doing what you’re doing”. This is great news.
⦁    Other great news revolves around RTE in Ireland who have officially confirmed that Gotham will premiere on RTÉ2 beginning Monday 26th January at 9pm. They’ve even released a brand new trailer. This should hopefully mean a wider audience is reached for the show in Ireland.

⦁    Robin Lord-Taylor fans have been asking one question regularly for months. What do previous actors who play the character think about his performance as the young Oswald Cobblepot on Gotham? Well the answer was given at the TCA’s this weekend when Danny DeVito (there to promote “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia“) was asked about his opinion about Robin Lord-Taylor. He told AccessHollywood.com “I’ve watched the show. I think he’s a very good young Penguin” ,”He’s a terrific actor,”. A ringing endorsement.
⦁    It’s also been announced that the future father of Dick Grayson, John Grayson will be played by Rob Gorrie. The circus will roll into Gotham in Episode 16 carrying with it the Flying Graysons. The episode is titled “The Blind Fortune Teller”. As Gotham takes place during the young years of Bruce Wayne, John Grayson will be a much younger character so we won’t see any appearance of Dick Grayson in the show.

DC Connected News
⦁    Former Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy has dropped out of his second DC movie “Suicide Squad” due to scheduling conflicts. The current movie he’s filming, “The Revenant”, has run over so he’s unable to take on the role of Rick Flag in “Suicide Squad” which starts filming in April 2014.

Thanks for listening we’ll be covering Volume 2 of Hush in our next podcast as Gotham is still on hiatus in Ireland and the UK; returning to Channel 5 for the second half of season one in March.

“Gotham Central Review Part 4” – Zero Year E13

“Gotham Central Review Part 4” – Zero Year E13

Show Notes

In Zero Year, Episode 13 of Gotham TV Podcast we talk about all the news surrounding Gotham and DC connected universe, in particular, this week the confirmed UK release of Gotham on Channel 5 this Autumn. We also continue our Gotham Central series review looking at issues #23-27 and including the story arcs “Corrigan”, “Lights Out” and “On The Freak Beat” by Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka and Michael Lark.

The review is full of spoilers so if you haven’t read the comics, grab a copy from your local comic book shop or you can read it digitally at Comixology and join us. Let us know your opinion on the story and we’ll discuss any feedback on the next episode.

Gotham News

⦁    The big news this week is that we finally have a confirmed UK broadcaster for Gotham. Channel 5 a UK channel will be broadcasting the show in the UK. The penetration of the channel is quite low in Ireland but luckily we can at least see it. In Irish broadcast news there’s a vague confirmation that our national broadcaster RTÉ has picked up Gotham and will broadcast it on RTÉ 2. *UPDATE 16/10/2014 – The Irish Independent are reporting that RTÉ 2 have the rights for Gotham and will be showing the TV show from 2015 for those who don’t have access to Channel 5.
⦁    Casting news in this weekend from Gotham is that David Zayas who played Detective Angelo “Angel” Batista throughout the hugely successful TV show Dexter will be swapping to the other side of the law to play Salvatore “The Boss” Maroni. Along with Carmine Falconé and Oswald Cobblepot, Sal is another of the big mobsters of Gotham. Previously he was played by Eric Roberts in Christopher Nolan’s Batman: The Dark Knight and played a very big part in the creation of Two Face in the seminal graphic novel Batman: The Long Halloween.

Other DC News

⦁    DC have planted flags in the sand for movies all the way up to 2020. This provides a little confirmation of the story we reported early from Nikki Finke of the supposedly leaked DC Movie slate but no actual films have been reported in the slots.
⦁    While we still haven’t got confirmation of who’s playing Aquaman, Jason Mamoa, who played Kal Drogo on season 1 of Game of Thrones, has been very strongly rumoured. Pretty interesting casting but another interesting story came out this week about DC commissioning two different writers to write two scripts for an Aquaman movie. So apparently there will be some kind of Aquaman battle Royale to decide which script is the king of the ocean.
⦁    A new Batman comic, Gotham by Midnight, is due to be released in October/November 2014 focusing on the even darker corners of Gotham City and its police force, the GCPD. Written by Ray Fawkes the current writer of “Batman Eternal” and featuring the artwork of “30 Days of Night”  and “Welcome to Hoxford” artist Ben Templesmith. Writer Fawkes says this series is a mix of horror and supernatural and will be largely devoid of the Caped Crusader. Jim Corrigan will also feature in the issues.
⦁    The upcoming Constantine TV Show is starting to stake their claim on some of the wider DC universe characters and confirmed that C.S.U. Officer Jim Corrigan of the Gotham City Police Department will play a big part in the first season of the TV Show. Very interesting and the progress of this story might provide an answer to whether characters from these shows will cross over. If they can work Corrigan into a cross over story with Gotham at some point it opens the door to network agnostic crossovers…. We talk a lot more about Corrigan in this weeks Gotham Central Review.

As always thanks so much for listening and all your interactions over the last five months. We have just over a month left until Gotham launches in the US hopefully it won’t be very long after until we get to see the show in Europe and keep up with the coverage.

Next time we’ll complete our Gotham Central coverage with the final set of issues #28-40, which encompass the collected set “Corrigan II”.
