Gotham Trailers, Clips and Videos

Since the start of May fans of the upcoming TV series Gotham have, in addition to interviews with the cast and characters, been treated to a host of video releases, including trailers and clips that are beginning to tease out the tone, direction and characters of the show scheduled for this Autumn.

The release of the official extended trailer for Gotham started it all off in early May and started a buzz about the show with fans enjoying and scrutinising the trailers, including ourselves with our “Gotham First Full Trailer Breakdown” episode of Gotham TV Podcast. This was soon followed by a “First Look” from the official Gotham website and trailers from other TV networks as screenings of the pilot episode of Gotham began to gather more excitement and generate momentum around the show. We then got to see a short but tantalising villains snap-shot from Fox Networks which was awesome and got ourselves even more excited about the show and now we’ve seen the companion video to Villains entitled Heroes, there’s no new footage present but seeing Jim and the young Bruce Wayne together as the city closes around them is worth watching.

Whilst most of the footage is from the pilot episode, there are some great shots of the City of Gotham and some iconic glimpses laid bare in the current releases for the Gotham TV show. We are certainly expecting new footage from the series soon, as the big comic cons are on the horizon and filming for the show is continuing apace in New York (aka Gotham). So, Gothamites, we have pulled together the current trailers, clips, snap-shots and other videos below and on our new YouTube Channel for you all to enjoy. We will of course add to this as more trailers and clips are released.

News

⦁    Many of the cast have confirmed on Twitter that they are returning to work to begin recording the rest of the series for Fox. With Donal Logue (Harvey Bullock), Victoria Cartagena (Renee Montoya), Andrew Stewart-Jones (Crispus Allen) and Robin Lord Taylor (Oswald Cobblepot) all confirming they’re in New York this week 20th June 2014. This is a bit earlier than expected so hopefully it means some new footage in time for San Diego Comic Con.

⦁    Victoria Catagena has confirmed that she’s reading up on Gotham Central in order to prep for her role in Gotham. Following Ben McKenzie and Bruno Heller she’s the third member of the team to confirm the show is taking from the highly acclaimed series we talked about in Episode 4 and Episode 5. We will be returning to cover the rest of the arc from our next show.

⦁    In an interview with Hitfix Danny Cannon (Not Bruno Heller as Derek says in the Podcast) has said that he’d love to incorporate the Origins of Mr. Freeze into Gotham. Given how they use the character in Gotham Central and the numerous origins for him over the years we’re sure it would be a great fit.

⦁    Rumours appeared on the internet this week claiming to be from Fox that Gotham has been canceled. The original report came from a “Create your own headline” Site on the internet called Sunday Times Daily or STD. It seems to have gained some traction but given all the positive feedback on the the pilot from people who’ve seen the show it had no basis in fact.

⦁    Two slightly different Pilot trailers were released one by Canadian Broadcaster CTV who will broadcast the show this Fall. Not much new footage and the original Fox cut was better. A short teaser was released of the villains showing Selina, Oswald and Fish Mooney’s parts and saying they only got this way because of the city their from.

⦁    Australian Broadcaster Nine Network were confirmed to have bought broadcast rights for Gotham. So great news for our Aussie listeners. We’re still waiting on a broadcast confirmed for Europe.

⦁    *Breaking News* Former Angel, Firefly and Supernatural alum Ben Edlund has joined the team of Gotham for the first season.

⦁    *Breaking News* TV Director TJ Scott is set to direct episodes 4 and 6 of Season 1 of Gotham. Mr. Scott most recently worked on Orphan Black but his work can also be seen on Spartacus and Black Sails

⦁    A Batman Standalone film with Ben Affleck starring and directing is expected by 2019. Could this be The Dark Knight Returns story arc with an older Batman and maybe Daniel Radcliffe as Robin. Although in that story Robin was Sarah Essen Gordon the child of two of the main characters in the Gotham TV series.

⦁    Constantine has teased Doctor Fate, a character in the extended DC Universe, in a new trailer. Showing that Constantine won’t stand alone and apart from the DC Universe.

⦁    *BREAKING NEWS*  The Arrow Season 3 and The Flash Season 1 have announced their premiere dates for October. The Flash will air on the 7th followed by Arrow on the 8th. They will lead in with the two Arrow episodes that Barry Allen The Flash first appeared on October 1st.

Game Review – Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe Edition PS3

Overview

Set three months after the events of the Batman: Arkham Origins game by WB Montreal, Batman Origins Blackgate sees Batman get drawn to Blackgate prison while chasing Catwoman. Commisioner Gordan tells him that three of Gotham’s biggest criminals, Joker, The Penguin and Black Mask have taken over three seperate areas of the prison and need to be taken down. With the help of Catwoman, Batman enters the prison to stop the criminals one by one.

Batman and Gordon

Graphics

I’ve played all three Batman: Arkham games to date and enjoyed each one. The graphics have been amazing and the feeling of “Being Batman” is like no other I’d experienced before. I must admit I was hesitant to play the game as almost everything I’d seen showed a more cartoony style for this. The developers Armature Studios describe it as being a 2.5HD reboot of the PlayStation Vita and Nitendo DS game of the same name. I was pleasantly surprised with the implementation of this transfer. There are some sections of the game that are totally on rails. You can’t explore the corners of every room and the camera moves around with you as you move through various areas but this really is a great looking downloadable game. Scenes like the fight with Killer Croc really stand out as beautiful. The majority of the cut scenes look like motion comics with voice over from the actors but it’s a nice style and doesn’t take away from the game once you get used to them.

Gameplay

batman-blackgate-ps3-Fight

Once you are in the main game you can choose to go after the three protaganists in any order you wish. Penguin has taken up quarters in the Cell Blocks, Joker has taken the Administration wing and Black Mask has taken the Industrial section of Blackgate prison. While I don’t really understand why Blackgate has an Industrial section I love that you get to choose in which order you play the game. With the added bonus of collectables for each of the bad guys (Penguin – 20 Bird cages, Joker – 20 sets of chattering teeth, Black Mask – 20 porcelin masks) it keeps you coming back for more and more.

Batman himself has an array of gadgets available to aid him in his mission. He starts out with the Batarang, Bat-Scanner, (Bat?)Grappel Gun and Cryptographic Sequencer (a decoder for the electronic key pads of locked doors). Each of these items is hugely useful but I found myself relying on the Scanner most often. You can scan every corner of every room. When I got lost or couldn’t find where to go on the less than helpful map, all that was required was a scan of a dead end to find a breakable wall or a vent that I could break open. More gadgets are unlocked and upgraded throughout the games running time but are generally provided in the area where you’ll use them most. These include a Line-Launcher for crossing areas you couldn’t cross before, a Bat Claw for grabbing on to objects or people and pulling them down or towards you and a Gel Launcher for sending explosive charges at breakable areas and setting them off at will.

Also present if you’ve played the previous Batman: Arkham games is the free flow fighting system. This is a system built on pressing one or two buttons in a timed order to pull off moves that only batman can achieve. You chain your combat in order to knockout your enemies as quickly and efficiently as possible. Batman doesn’t kill. While I was never great at this process in the Batman: Arkham games I’m terrible at it in these games but luckily the difficulty is not that hard so while I can’t pull off a 30 times combo I can dispatch enemies with some Batman style.

Value

With three full campaigns and loads of collectables, trophies and secrets to be found this game is well worth the price tag. I paid €19.00 for this on the Playstation and spent more time playing this than the majority of games I’ve paid full price for.

Overall impression

I was taken aback by how much I enjoyed this game. When I originally heard that it was a transfer of a game from the PlayStation Vita to the PS3 I was expecting a two to three hour sub-par experience that I’d give an afternoon to and then not come back to again. The fact that the voice actors from Batman: Arkham Origins are involved and that the story takes place over three sizable playgrounds means it doesn’t get tiresome. It’s definitely different from the fuller console versions but it really is an enjoyable diversion while we’re waiting for the next generation PlayStation 4, PC and XBox One exclusive Batman: Arkham Knight, recently delayed to 2015. I’m going back to solve more cases.

Batman V Superman has an official title

The Batman V Superman twitter account released a new logo for the highly anticipated superhero movie today. They also revealed to the world that the previously unnamed movie has been titled Dawn of Justice.

So what can we tell from these three little words. We’re only speculating but after a huge amount of criticism of Superman’s actions at the end of Man of Steel is Bruce Wayne in Metropolis to show Kal-El the true meaning of Justice? This would make a battle between Batman and Superman inevitable wouldn’t it?

The official Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice website has also been launched today

Only 100 weeks left to wait.

Meanwhile feast your eyes on the new logo. There’s a lot of darkness overtaking the Superman symbol which, as we learned in Man of Steel, means hope. Does this mean that Clark is losing hope in the human race?

We can’t wait to see how these two behemoths go head to head on the big screen for the first time on 6th of May 2016.

For good measure and in anticipation of the film here are the photo’s again of Ben Affleck’s sad Batman with his Batmobile that Zack Snyder released last week via his twitter account.

Fox Upfronts – Gotham Insights

With the teaser and extended trailers released in the last few weeks some further information came from the producers of Fox’s Gotham TV series with the “Inside Look” that was created for the Fox Upfronts last week. There are some great interviews and insights into what we are likely to see in the Gotham TV Show this fall.

https://youtu.be/REoELMS5tXc

Bruno Heller certainly teases us about villains to come with snippets such as “What made the Joker, the Joker?” and “How did the Scarecrow become the Scarecrow?”. The director, Danny Cannon, also gives us a nice perspective about the show adding “Why did the City get in to such a state that it needed a vigilante?”. There is much of what we saw in the trailer but there are also some nice viewpoints from the cast, a bit of new footage and we hope you enjoy this additional glimpse in to GOTHAM.

Dublin Comic Con

Dublin Comic Con (DCC) 2014 is returning on 9th and 10th August at the National Show Centre in Swords. A current list of guests attending is available here with more to be added shortly.

We’re really looking forward to the event, in particular for fans of Gotham and the wider Batman and DC universe the Batman himself is attending! Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman, will attend during the weekend. It is difficult to express the level of involvement and influence that Kevin Conroy has had over the last 14 years or more voicing Batman. He is much beloved by fans of the many classic animated Batman features and series and of course the Rocksteady Arkham games that he has been involved in. To name a few Kevin Conroy has been in such classics as Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero and Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.

Tickets are now on sale online and can be purchased here. The VIP tickets seem to sold out already. Other than the ‘General entry’ tickets, there are also “Family entry” and “Weekend entry” tickets available to buy online and it is free entry to children 3 years of age or under.
