Bruce’s conditioning wears off as he is confronted with Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) run-through by his own hand.  Spurning the offer from Ra’s al Ghul (Alexander Siddig) offer to be his heir Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) uses the waters of the Lazarus Pit to rescue Alfred from death. At the hospital Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) arrives and the tense visit sees her and Bruce’s relationship disintegrate as they both go their separate ways. With Jervis Tetch (Benedict Samuel) in the hands of Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) and The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) they begin to blackmail the city in exchange for Tetch and the antidote. However, Nygma’s obsession with Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) forces him to betray Barbara as he meets Jim and Harvey to swap Tetch for the Penguin.  However, the deal heads south as Barbara, Tabitha and Butch interrupt the exchange. In the escape, Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) secure Tetch’s blood for the antidote; and Cobblepot turns the tables in his favour capturing Nygma. Back at the GCPD, Jim Gordon, still fighting the virus, is caught between saving himself and Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin), or joining her and embracing his true-virus-self. Gordon decides to leave with Lee but as they escape through the train station, Bullock intercepts them and urges Jim to remember his calling giving him his badge back with two vials of the antidote. In the train, Gordon injects himself and Lee, freeing them from the virus. Losing Tetch opens the fault lines between Barbara and Butch Gilzean (Drew Powell) and Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas). Butch is shot and Tabitha kills Barbara in revenge. Elsewhere, Nygma breaks free of Cobblepot’s handcuffs and believes he has the upper hand but Cobblepot has wised up to the Riddler and goads him into returning to the port. At the docks, Cobblepot’s trap is sprung as Victor Fries (Nathan Darrow) freezes Nygma and in so doing forms a gorgeous centerpiece to Penguin’s new club “The Iceberg Lounge” but, as he tells Ivy (Maggie Geha), it is also as an important reminder to never let love weaken him again. As some normality returns to Gotham, Selina  is adopted by Tabitha who is surprised by her skill with her whip. Gordon receives a letter from Lee, stating she is leaving Gotham; and a new vigilante is out in Gotham protecting the vulnerable. On a rooftop high above Gotham Bruce Wayne removes his mask.

  • the Dollmaker mentioned in Episode 2 of #Gotham will appear on the show. Colm Feore, who played King Laufey in Thor and also appeared in Amazing Spider-man 2 is making the leap over to DC to take the role. Dollmaker, real name Dr. Francis Dulmacher, has been teased since the second episode of Gotham, in which his creepy henchmen Doug (Frank Whaley) and Patti (Lili Taylor) name him as the culprit behind the mass kidnappings of the city’s street children. We wonder if John’s theory on the Dollmaker will come true.

Gotham News
⦁    Gotham has been officially renewed by Fox in the US for a second season. At the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter event on Saturday 17th January Co-Chairman and CEO of Fox, Dana Walden, said that Fox “love the show” and they’ve told the team behind the hit show “keep doing what you’re doing”. This is great news.
⦁    Other great news revolves around RTE in Ireland who have officially confirmed that Gotham will premiere on RTÉ2 beginning Monday 26th January at 9pm. They’ve even released a brand new trailer. This should hopefully mean a wider audience is reached for the show in Ireland.

⦁    Robin Lord-Taylor fans have been asking one question regularly for months. What do previous actors who play the character think about his performance as the young Oswald Cobblepot on Gotham? Well the answer was given at the TCA’s this weekend when Danny DeVito (there to promote “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia“) was asked about his opinion about Robin Lord-Taylor. He told AccessHollywood.com “I’ve watched the show. I think he’s a very good young Penguin” ,”He’s a terrific actor,”. A ringing endorsement.
⦁    It’s also been announced that the future father of Dick Grayson, John Grayson will be played by Rob Gorrie. The circus will roll into Gotham in Episode 16 carrying with it the Flying Graysons. The episode is titled “The Blind Fortune Teller”. As Gotham takes place during the young years of Bruce Wayne, John Grayson will be a much younger character so we won’t see any appearance of Dick Grayson in the show.

DC Connected News
⦁    Former Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy has dropped out of his second DC movie “Suicide Squad” due to scheduling conflicts. The current movie he’s filming, “The Revenant”, has run over so he’s unable to take on the role of Rick Flag in “Suicide Squad” which starts filming in April 2014.

Thanks for listening we’ll be covering Volume 2 of Hush in our next podcast as Gotham is still on hiatus in Ireland and the UK; returning to Channel 5 for the second half of season one in March.

Channel 5 Announces UK Air Date for Gotham TV Series

Channel 5 have today announced they will broadcast the big autumn TV show Gotham very soon. The show has been received very well in the US on the 22nd of September with very high ratings and generally well received reviews. Channel 5 will show the pilot episode of the show on Monday the 13th of October 2014 at 9PM and we’ll be watching every episode.

Gotham tells the story of young Detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie, The O.C., Southland, Batman: Year One) a former resident of Gotham City who returns after more than 10 years away to join the Homicide Unit of the Gotham City Police Department. His partner in the G.C.P.D. is street savvy Detective Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue, Vikings, Law & Order: S.V.U., Sons of Anarchy) a detective with connections to underworld characters including Nightclub owner Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith, The Matrix Revolutions, Scream 2, Collateral), a character newly created for the show. In Fish’s employ are Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord-Taylor in a break out performance) a well-known character from the comics who will eventually become crime boss The Penguin and her right hand man Butch Gilzean (played by Drew Powell who previously worked with Ben McKenzie on Southland).

Other members of Gotham City Law enforcement include Detectives Renee Montoya (Victoria Cartagena) and Crispus Allen (British actor Andrew Stewart-Jones) who we at Gotham TV podcast had the pleasure of interviewing recently you can listen to the interview in the player below. As members of the Major Crimes Unit they have a distrustful relationship with anyone outside of their tight knit partnership including Detective Allen’s former partner Harvey Bullock. Captain Sarah Essen (Zabryna Guevara) heads up the Gotham City Police Department providing guidance for the team. The detectives work closely with the intelligent yet inscrutable Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) another character well-known to comic book and Batman fans as the future Riddler.

Gotham MCU Poster V2

With the help of his fiance Barbara Kean (Welsh actor Erin Richards), Jim Gordon will try to navigate the dangerous mob run streets of Gotham to investigate the murder of 12-year-old Bruce Wayne’s (David Mazouz, Touch) aristocratic parents Dr. Thomas and Martha Wayne.

Left in the care of his butler, former soldier in the British SAS Alfred Pennyworth (British Actor Sean Pertwee, Dog Soldiers, Event Horizon) the young Bruce Wayne will find it difficult to grow up without guidance.

The city of Gotham and it’s characters from young Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova),  mob boss Carmine Falcone (John Doman, The Wire) to his rival Salvatore Maroni (David Zayas, Dexter) will make a great backdrop to what we expect to be a fascinating look at the time in Gotham before the Batman and what led a young man with a score to settle to don a cape and cowl to patrol the streets of this lost city.

Join us after the premiere of Gotham on Channel 5 on the 13th of October for our review of the episode. Andrew Kriesberg also confirmed that Flash Episode 8 and Arrow Episode 8 will feature the first two hour cross over on the TV shows but there will be another cross over earlier in the series when Felicity pops over to visit the Flash in Central City for episode 4.

iZombie panel discuss the premise of the show

CW’s mid-season series iZombie also debuted at SDCC 2014 (unfortunately iZombie will not be included in the Saturday WB/DC TV event), with details from executive producers Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright (both of Veronica Mars) on the premise of the show that sees Olivia “Liv” Moore (Rose McIver) turn into a zombie. Her Zombie status is not known to everyone and she only eats the brains (with hot sauce) of people who are already dead. To satisfy her lust for brains she gets a job at the city morgue where she can dine on the brains of those people admitted. Liv’s new diet allows her to experience “visions” of the corpse’s memories and clues as to how they were killed. This take on zombies from the Vertigo imprint will be lighter in tone and looks set to draw out the funnier and comedic moments of zombies over the series whilst set against other procedural elements from the morgue.

Spotlight on Scott Snyder

2529601-scottsnyder_564

Given his current work on Batman: The New52! series, Scott Snyder writer of Batman Zero Year, Superman Unchained and American Vampire (and the upcoming title Wytches for Image Comics) is an important figure right now for DC and for the Batman universe. In this panel Scott Snyder provides a great insight in to his work and the craft of comic writing. The “Spotlight” panel explores topics such as why he chose the Riddler as the principal villain for “Batman: Zero Year” and what it was like and how prepared he was to write Batman after landing the job with DC. Scott Snyder also talks about his experiences pitching his writing, such as American Vampire, to publishers and the upcoming projects Wytches and Batman: Endgame. The panel transcript can be found in full via Newsarama.

Spotlight on Bill Finger

Bill Finger

Featuring members of Bill Finger’s family this panel dealt with the legacy left behind by Bill’s contribution to the creation of Gotham city and The Bat-Man in 1959. It’s unlikely the Dark Knight we know and love today would have existed without Mr. Finger’s contribution, so it was great to see his name highlighted on this weeks free reprint of Detective Comics #27. You can read a recap of the panel via comicsbeat.com

Gotham Zip-Lining, Trams and Taxis disguised as G.C.P.D. cars.

Opened by Kevin Faulconer, the Mayor of San Diego, the Gotham Zip-Line allows fans to glide past a backdrop of Gotham City. Looks like great fun there’s a video of the Gotham Zip-line below. There are also Gotham Trams operating on the route to the convention center and if you want to use a taxi to get around and order through the Uber app you can get picked up by a Gotham City Police Department car.

New Ben Affleck Batman image

At the DC entertainment both they had created a rather large surprise for fans in the Batman 75 montage wall. In amongst a vast number of images of batman throughout the years they had included a head shot of Ben Affleck in the cowl from the upcoming movie Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.  He looks a little like most of the attendees at comic con will look after a weekend of camping out for Hall H but still very cool.

With three more days of fun in San Diego, including panels for Gotham, Arrow, Flash, Constantine and Warner Bros. Pictures we’ll have loads more to discuss and share. We’ll do a full recap at the end of SDCC 2014 on our podcast.

Gotham Premiere Date Announced for the USA

Gotham will premiere this Fall on Monday 22nd September in the USA and we are understandably excited. Episode one of Gotham will air at 8pm on the Fox Network just before the return of Sleepy Hollow. We have nothing more to add other than, in the tradition of Dr Strangelove, we can’t wait for the countdown to zero.
