Alfie and the boys have the money and are ready to head for a new life in the USA, but Alfie is having trouble telling Sandy at the club of his decision to leave England and he still can’t convince his mum to move with him; as she  still struggles with the death of her husband and Alfie’s involvement on that fateful night.

As the Raven Union make plans to press their advantage over the English League, differences between Lord Harwood and Frances Gaunt bubble to the surface over the terrifying project Stormcloud.

To make things worse for the English League, the CIA has decided to undermine their leadership as they go after British PM Archbishop Potter over his moral stance against the newly developed hydrogen bomb. While Thomas is uncomfortable with this course of action he makes plans to employ his old satanic adversary – Anthony Crowley – to discredit Potter.

Elsewhere Bet Sykes is still on the run from the Raven Union with her hostage, Katie Browning; and Alfie finds himself embroiled in another hostage situation.

With his mum kidnapped, Alfie , Dave-Boy and Bazza attempt to rescue her, but things head south quickly as Inspector Assiz and the police interrupt the hostage negotiations. In the confusion the ransom of £20,000 is taken by the kidnappers and while his mum is safe the loss of the money puts Alfie’s American plans very much on hold.

After the arrest of Lord Harwood and Betty Sykes, Alfred Pennyworth is approached back at the club by a grateful Thomas Wayne. He offers Alfred a job for his nascent security business. However, Alfred turns down the offer from the billionaire businessman, because the company he keeps almost had him and Esme killed!

At the Tower of London, the detained Lord Harwood is tortured and interrogated to find out who leads the Raven Society but with limited success. Elsewhere in the Tower, Bet Sykes has a different kind of interrogation by George one of her guards who is tricked into delivering her post. But while she hatches her plan to escape from the Tower, her infatuation with Esme continues as one of her letters makes its way to Esme’s apartment…kiss, kiss…kiss.

In Whitechapel, Alfred has accepted a new job from the landlord of the Severed Arms pub whose daughter is being harassed by the creepy and possessive Jason Ripper. As Alfred, Davy-Boy and Bazza set to work on Jason this new assignment puts Alfred firmly in the sights of Jason’s Uncle, the notorious Ripper of the East-end. But the Ripper is  persuaded by Alfred to give him the benefit of the doubt by showing that his nephew was a weak link in his crime organisation.

With the Pennyworth family back home sat around the telly with a nice cuppa, Alfred makes sure that Bet is executed at the Tower. But all Bets are off as Peggy Sykes comes to free her younger sister from the hangman’s noose.

In the wider country opposing factions are threatening the stability and authority of the British Government. On the left the No-Name Society seeking a socialist utopia and on the right the Raven Society looking to establish a facist utopia.

Alfred also meets Esme Winikus, a dancing girl and actress, who he forms a romance with. However, his brief connection with Wayne becomes perilous as it tangles Alfred and a reluctant Esme into close contact with the Raven Society and their enforcer the mysteriously violent lady Bet Sykes.

Held hostage by Bet at the behest of the Raven Society’s leader Lord Harwood, Esme’s only chance is Alfred and the exchange of her for Thomas Wayne.

Gotham Finale Review of 512 “The Beginning…” Synopsis

Directed by: Rob Bailey

Written by: John Stephens

As a more portly Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) prepares to leave Blackgate Prison after ten years, strange things begin to take place in Gotham on the eve of the return of Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) for the opening of the new Wayne Towers. Many of Gotham’s residents are waiting for Bruce to return including Selina Kyle (played by Lili Simmons), who is still disappointed she was left behind. Whispers are abound of a dark menace blighting the criminal underworld, while the G.C.P.D. are unable to trace missing US military supplies.

As the day arrives and Penguin walks free more offbeat moments ensue as the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) is busted out of Arkham Asylum and a shaken Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) is framed for the murder of an Arkham guard.

As Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) begins to piece together the evidence helped by an unknown figure in black, a sinister plot targeting the city of Gotham and Wayne Towers is revealed to be masterminded by Jeremiah
Valeska (Cameron Monaghan), or is that Jack, Joseph, John or Mr Jay. As Jim prepares to face the disfigured Jeremiah at ACE Chemicals a new figure emerges to be the hero that Gotham needs.

Gotham Reaches Games End. Our Gotham Finale Spoiler Free Review.

THIS IS OUR SPOILER FREE REVIEW OF THE SERIES FINALE OF GOTHAM “THE BEGINNING”.

Gotham will reach the end with it’s finale airing on Thursday the 25th of April on Fox TV. This is definitely an episode for fans of the show. While we do see the much publicised appearance of Batman in this episode, the other residents of the city get ample time on screen. This is the final time we will get to see Gotham’s version of the iconic villains and the supporting players in Batman’s world. Writer John Stephens does an admirable job in getting us up to speed quickly on what’s happened in the ten year time jump since last week’s episode and what was important about the last five seasons of the show.

The Official Trailer for the Gotham Finale

A Trip Down Memory Lane

In this final hour long episode of the show we get to visit some of the most iconic locations of Gotham. At points it’s like a trip down memory lane in Steiner Studios where the majority of the interiors for the show were filmed. Riddler is called out for using a revenge plot he used before but angrily responds “It’s a call back!” which in itself is a nice call out for the episode. This finale features John Stephens’ same twisted mix of Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins in one instant, followed by the playful 60’s Batman TV show, with a dash of Geoff John’s or Scott Snyder’s comic book Batman which have been a feature of his episodes in the past. This time it feels like we as an audience have earned this.

Our Top 3 WTF moments from every episode of Gotham Season 5

Gotham has changed a lot

Over the course of the last five years and one hundred episodes Gotham has changed a lot. Originally conceived by British producers Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon as “Law & Order : Gotham” the intention was to show how the police tried to help the city before the arrival of Batman. The original pilot was well received by critics and television platforms worldwide including a reported upfront payment from Netflix of $1 million per episode for the season one streaming rights. This lead to an initial sixteen episode order for season one. The show premiered in September 2014 to over fourteen million viewers and received a full season order extending the show to twenty two episodes.

Gotham Season 1 to 5 Posters

The changes came early on in season one as the show began to pivot away from the procedural police drama with the G.C.P.D. vs the mounting mafia-like crime families. A number of major comic book characters did not return to the show including Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen, mainstays of Gotham Central which provided a lot of influence on the original concept. More and more villains were brought on throughout season two, aptly named “Rise of The Villains” and “Wrath of The Villains” to placate vocal Batman “fans” calling for the Nolan version of the character on TV. With Bruno Heller moving on after the season two finale more of Bruce’s journey towards becoming the Batman came to the forefront of the story.

Gotham Enters No Man’s Land

On May 13th 2018, four days before the season four finale aired, Gotham was belatedly renewed for a fifth and final season of ten episodes. This order was extended to twelve episodes. A lot of this season has been spent getting the city of Gotham back from the “No Man’s Land” cliffhanger from season four. But it has also spent some time on fan favourite pairing like BatCat and Nygmobblepot while introducing iconic villains such as Bane and Scarface along with their own versions of the Joker and Harley Quinn in Jerome and Ecco.

A new Catwoman?

Sadly, as we mentioned on our last episode Camren Bicondova, announced that she does not appear in the final episode of the show. She was the first actor who appeared on screen  in the first episode of Gotham and it’s sad that she couldn’t round out the show with the rest of the cast. The good news is new comer Lili Simmons clearly studied Bicondova’s performance as Selina Kyle. She maintains a similar poise while also delivering a truly iconic moment for the character. The finale episode is the ultimate fan letter to Gotham and the characters featuring even more comic accurate versions than we’ve seen before.

Gotham Finale Verdict

When all was said and done I really enjoyed this final episode of Gotham. My only wish would have been that the one month gap that Fox had placed between episodes 10 and 11 of this season could have come between episodes 11 and 12. The nostalgia for the show feels slightly misplaced at times since it had an episode just last week. But that’s a minor complaint. I think many of us Gotham fans will watch this episode multiple times wondering what might have been.
